What is PTO?

The purpose of PTO at our school is to act as a liaison between parents and teachers to help facilitate communication and to increase parent involvement. 

Studies have shown that children do better academically when parents and caregivers are involved in their education at home and at school. The goal of Dames Ferry's PTO is to help and encourage you to get involved, not just for your child(ren), but for all of the children.  

Many people hear PTO and think "fundraisers". It is true that we do a good amount of fundraising. Do we expect you to participate in every fundraiser? Absolutely not! We appreciate all of the participation that we get, and understand that everyone cannot participate in every fundraiser.

We appreciate support and participation in all forms. We love for parents and families to donate not only monetary donations, but time, craft, and creativity as well.

Scholastic Bookfair

The bookfair is a biannual fundraiser that is done in the fall and spring of every school year. We work with Scholastic to encourage our children to enjoy reading in hopes that they will read more. The PTO receives a portion of the profits from the bookfair to be spent for the school.

Change for Change

"Change for Change" is a fundraiser in which we collected coins to fund our school beautification project. In observance of Earth and Arbor Days, we have joined the Arbor Day Foundation and are participating in a project to make our school and world a more beautiful place.

We had a great response this year, and look forward to doing this again next year! We raised almost $1500.00 for our school, and were able to purchase flowers, trees, and supplies for our beautification project. In addition to that, we were able to buy supplies for students and teachers, to help them finish out this school year strong!

A special congratulations to Mrs. Ashley Ivy's first grade class, who raised over $250.00!! Great job guys!! Their prizes are: a pizza and ice cream party and they get to help with the beautification project!

Also, a special thank you to Mrs. Grizzards class, who raised over $200. They will also enjoy an ice cream party! Thank ya'll so much for being so enthusiastic and being such great sports!

Other winners include: Mrs. Gore's Kindergarten class, Mrs. McGehee's Second Grade class, Mrs. Logue's Fourth Grade Class, and Mrs. Batchelor's Fifth Grade Class!! All of these classes will also enjoy ice cream parties!
